End of Term 3

It's the end of Term 3, with school holidays starting next week. It has been a busy, fun-filled term.  Highlights have included Book Week, athletics carnivals, Learning Journeys and incursions. Term 4 promises to be just as busy, with dancing, swimming lessons and much more.

Learning Journeys

A special thank you to the parents who attended the Learning Journeys this week. It was great to see so many parents attending, and I'm sure the students were thrilled to have you there.

Life Education Van Incursion

Room 12 recently attended the Life Education Van incursion, which was on the topic of "Relate, Respect and Connect". The feedback from students has been excellent. Students typed up their experiences, and a few of their reports are included as part of this blog post.

School Holidays

Wishing all the students and their families an enjoyable break. Note that Term 4 commences for students on Monday 8 October 2018.

Student Reporters: Life Education Van Incursion

The Life Education Van
By Shayla

On Wednesday the 5th September the students of Room 12 went to the Life Education Van. They learnt about "Relate, Respect and Connect". Relating is where you try to do things like make friends. Respect is where say someone asks you to put something away or asks for help. Connect is how you get along with someone.

We watched a few videos or episodes about a girl named Bethany. She taught us how to make friends, and how when your friend goes to the new girl and doesn’t play with you, it doesn’t mean you’re not friends anymore.

Here’s the story - Bethany is a 19 year old girl. She is in high school. Her friends are Ash [boy] and Zara [girl]. When Zara came to school, Ash went to hang out with her and Bethany thought that Ash wasn’t her friend. So she went up to Ash and said, "Are you still my friend?" He said, "Of course!" And then they were friends, even Zara!

The lady at the Life Education Van asked us a few questions, like if we could tell her what respect means to us and more. We got put into groups from 1-6 and she gave us some cards. We had to say if the card scenarios were respectful or disrespectful. It was fun!

At the end, the boss brought out a giraffe called Harold. He’s a puppet, but he’s really funny. He showed us a picture of his grandma doing tae kwon do, which was funny!

I can’t wait for next year!

Life Education Van
By Falencia

On Wednesday, 5th of September, we went to the Life Education Van, the home of Harold. The Life Education Van teaches kids life lessons. Our topic this year was “Relate, Respect, Connect.”

First when we entered, the van was quite small. It could’ve be super-hot, but it was not. It had a fan. The teacher was really nice, we even saw Harold at the end! The teacher showed us a video about a vlogger named Bethany. In the video, she talked about family and friends situations. Bethany talked about her friends, Fang, Zara and Ash. She talked about how they’re all different, but they do get along. Sometimes, being different is good because you can teach your friends your hobbies, which can make you bond more with your friends. Bethany told us a story of when she was in high school. Ash was her only friend and she realised that Ash was talking to Zara. At first, she was jealous and she thought that Ash didn’t want to be her friend anymore. So, she confronted Ash and told him how she was feeling. Ash told her that he still wanted to be friends with Bethany also with Zara. So he introduced Zara to Bethany. Bethany didn’t really like Zara. But then, she learned to like her and became friends.

After that, the teacher put us in groups and handed each group a card to discuss. At the end of the lesson, Bethany had gone to a high school and interviewed kids. She talked about what qualities count as a good friend. My qualities that count as a good friend would be funny, supportive, cheerful and nice. One of the activities that the teacher gave to us, was to categorise the scene on the card as no way, ok or fine My group’s card was about a boy, whose brother came into the room. The brother said to get off the game controller, so the boy threw the controller at the brother and stormed out. Of course we said it was no way. That was really rude and disrespectful. He could’ve just handed his brother the controller instead of throwing it.

At the end, we got to see Harold and he showed us a picture of his Grandmother doing tae kwon do. In my opinion, it was really fun and super awesome. It taught us a lesson on respect. I’m sure it would help us in the future. It was great as usual and super-entertaining. I can’t wait for next year!
