Easter News

As the end of Term 1 approaches, there is a lot happening in Room 12. This week students completed a range of tests, as part of Year 5 testing. Test books are due to be sent home to parents towards the end of the term. Over the next few weeks there will be an increased focus on NAPLAN preparation, as the tests will be held early in Term 2. Parent interviews will be held on Tuesday 10 April. Notes were sent home this week with an appointment time for parents/guardians. Note that students will be finishing school at 12pm on that day. Also note that Friday 13 April is a staff development day and a pupil free day for students. Congratulations to the incredibly ecstatic Morgan for winning the second prize in the school's Easter Raffle. It was fantastic to see the other students cheering for Morgan. We are all thrilled to have a winner from Room 12. Wishing the students and their families an enjoyable Easter break. Note that students will return to school on Wednesday 4 April.

Harmony Day 2018

Image
On Wednesday 21 March the whole school celebrated Harmony Day. The day is a celebration of Australia's cultural diversity. As part of the celebrations, the students in Room 12 participated in the Wattle Grove Primary School parade. It was fantastic to see so many students wearing their national costumes or orange, the official colour of Harmony Day. Well done to the students and thank you to the parents/guardians for helping with the costumes. The Room 12 students also collected data on the class member's countries of birth. We found out that the students in our class were born in 11 different countries: Australia, India, Indonesia, Italy, Bangladesh, South Africa, New Zealand, England, Nigeria, Germany and the United States of America. We certainly are a diverse group! Room 12 students in their Harmony Day costumes

Talk to Teach Presentations

Image
On Friday 4 March, students in Room 12 conducted their "Talk to Teach" presentations, where students had the task of teaching the class how to make something simple.  The focus was on speaking and listening skills, with the aim of  giving and following clear oral instructions. I am impressed with the amount of preparation from the students, and with their creative ideas. Topics presented included magic tricks, arts and crafts, cooking, languages, dancing, science and building a speaker. The students did a great job with their presentations. Well done to all the students and thank you to the parents/guardians who helped with the preparation. For more details about the task, please see Talk to Teach .
