School Holiday Ideas for Room 12:
- English:
- Read as much as possible, including a variety of text types.
- Keep going with Literacy Pro and aim for the next certificate.
- Review the spelling words from Term 1.
- Write as much as possible. Some ideas might be to write a journal, story, poem or song. Perhaps you could research a topic and create an information report.
- Look out for different types of texts such as advertisements, recipes, maps, brochures, websites and menus.
- Mathematics:
- Look for opportunities to practice maths in day-to-day life. This includes basic facts (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Use the environment around you, for example when making purchases (e.g. shopping, eating out), travelling, reading timetables, sharing pizza, organising an event, telling the time etc.
- Practice times tables wherever possible. Year 5 students should be able to recall all the times tables up to 12. A suggestion is to make flash cards and use them to practice.
- Review the concepts taught in class.
Online programs:
- Students have access to the following programs:
- Scholastic Literacy Pro
- Study Ladder
- Khan Academy
