Harmony Day 2018

On Wednesday 21 March the whole school celebrated Harmony Day. The day is a celebration of Australia's cultural diversity.

As part of the celebrations, the students in Room 12 participated in the Wattle Grove Primary School parade. It was fantastic to see so many students wearing their national costumes or orange, the official colour of Harmony Day. Well done to the students and thank you to the parents/guardians for helping with the costumes.

The Room 12 students also collected data on the class member's countries of birth. We found out that the students in our class were born in 11 different countries: Australia, India, Indonesia, Italy, Bangladesh, South Africa, New Zealand, England, Nigeria, Germany and the United States of America. We certainly are a diverse group!

Book Week 2018

Next week, we are celebrating Book Week. The theme for this year is "Find Your Treasure". Speaking and Listening Task All students will need to give a 3-5 minute oral presentation that encourages other students to LOVE reading. They may choose to speak about a favourite character, story or research their favourite author. Presentations need to be both engaging and informative. Book Week Parade The school's Book Week Parade is scheduled for Friday 24 August. Students are encouraged to dress up in a Book Week costume. Literacy Pro Room 12 has now exceeded a reading total of 3 million words. Congratulations to all students for contributing to this milestone. Keep up the good work, and keep on reading.

Post-NAPLAN News

Room 12 has had a busy start to Term 2, with the students working hard in the lead up to NAPLAN. The NAPLAN tests are now completed and students are getting back into their usual routine. Well done to the students for their hard work and for completing the tests. A big thank you to the parents for their support during this time. Super Scientist Challenge The 'Super Scientist' competition is here again and notes were sent home last week. Our aim is to develop a passion for science, while encouraging students to learn more about the natural world. As before, all students are to research a scientific concept or idea, and then deliver this to an audience. The students can choose to conduct an experiment or give a report on their concept using charts/MS Powerpoint etc. Each presentation must be under 6 minutes. End of Year Activities

It has been a busy few weeks, with swimming lessons and dance practice. The end of year is fast approaching, with a few important events happening next week. Year 5 Presentation Dance Party On Tuesday 11 December, students will be attending the Year 5 Presentation Dance Party at Camp Wattle Grove. Students have been practising their dancing each week, and are keen to showcase their talents on the day. Room 12 Class Party On Wednesday 12 December, Room 12 will be having a class party, to celebrate the year. Students are asked to bring a plate of food, and/or drink to share. End of Year Reports  Student reports will be sent home on Wednesday 12 December. Last Day for Students That the last day at school for students is Thursday 13 December.
