Talk to Teach Presentations

On Friday 4 March, students in Room 12 conducted their "Talk to Teach" presentations, where students had the task of teaching the class how to make something simple. The focus was on speaking and listening skills, with the aim of giving and following clear oral instructions.

I am impressed with the amount of preparation from the students, and with their creative ideas. Topics presented included magic tricks, arts and crafts, cooking, languages, dancing, science and building a speaker.

 The students did a great job with their presentations. Well done to all the students and thank you to the parents/guardians who helped with the preparation.

Next week, we are celebrating Book Week. The theme for this year is "Find Your Treasure". Speaking and Listening Task All students will need to give a 3-5 minute oral presentation that encourages other students to LOVE reading. They may choose to speak about a favourite character, story or research their favourite author. Presentations need to be both engaging and informative. Book Week Parade The school's Book Week Parade is scheduled for Friday 24 August. Students are encouraged to dress up in a Book Week costume. Literacy Pro Room 12 has now exceeded a reading total of 3 million words. Congratulations to all students for contributing to this milestone. Keep up the good work, and keep on reading.

Post-NAPLAN News

Room 12 has had a busy start to Term 2, with the students working hard in the lead up to NAPLAN. The NAPLAN tests are now completed and students are getting back into their usual routine. Well done to the students for their hard work and for completing the tests. A big thank you to the parents for their support during this time. Super Scientist Challenge The 'Super Scientist' competition is here again and notes were sent home last week. Our aim is to develop a passion for science, while encouraging students to learn more about the natural world. As before, all students are to research a scientific concept or idea, and then deliver this to an audience. The students can choose to conduct an experiment or give a report on their concept using charts/MS Powerpoint etc. Each presentation must be under 6 minutes. Dear parents and students, In Week 5, students will undertake a speaking and listening task that requires some preparation at home (nothing too arduous). Students will also be given time in class to prepare. Please read the task below carefully. Talk to Teach This term, we will be focusing on giving and following clear oral instructions. As part of our Speaking and Listening activities, students will give a short (5 min)  “Talk to Teach”  presentation.
